I have always known that school people can say and do some strange things. Here are some examples of signs showing what a strange place schools can be:
- There was the school that had a sign with a circle and red line running through it indicating no smoking and right next to it had the same circle and red line with a hand gun [I would have thought most people would know to leave their firearms at home or at least in their cars];
- In the men's washroom over the sink where it usually says "Employees must wash hands" there was a sign showing two hands being washed and another red circle with a line indicating that the sink was not to be used for washing fruit; really bizarre, but it did cut the tension for me in the midst of a difficult meeting;
- Although not a written sign, the bus pulled up in the end of parent's driveway and waited there for several minutes for a child who was not taking the bus. When the parent called up to point out this error, the special education remarked pointedly that she was mistaken, the bus was simply cruising the neighborhood [a troubling sign in itself] and had nothing to do with her. More than a little strange when considering that on her little street, her house is the only one with school aged children.
I once saw this sign, in a cabin from the men's room at a local school, that represented a book in a red circle, with a line running through it, meaning that you should not leave any books or informative material in the toilet, to check out during a test or something. Funny, don't you think?
